There has always been the same underlying core motivation in all
of my work, regardless of style or content. That goal is always
for self-expression. Whether through internal, personal imagery
or external, observed imagery, my goal is to say something personal
about my perception and place in this world.
Following my experiences living in NYC, my work has focused on
the urban landscape. I became very aware of how we move through
these densely populated spaces. Whether simply strolling down the
street or partaking in organized festivities, it is our inclination
to blend others into the scenery. People lose their identities and
individuality and become elements of the architectural backdrop.
I began to create a series of glimpses into this reality. My choice
of vivid colour and altered view point reveals the chaos and poetry
of the human landscape. The view points are literally from the heart
and the gut. They capture our tendency to meld our human counterparts
into the landscape viewing them as obstacles as we move through
our daily lives. Each “snapshot” focuses our attention
on the detail and fluidity that surrounds us.
